Thabo Bester Gets New ID Card From Home Affairs

Sunday World has revealed that Thabo Bester, popularly known as the “Facebook Rapist,” has received a South African identity document (ID) card from the Department of Home Affairs. This development aims to put an end to the controversy surrounding his numerous aliases.

Home Affairs Minister Confirms Thabo Bester’s South African Citizenship

The publication reports that a home affairs official visited the Kgosi Mampuru correctional centre last week to hand over the South African ID to Thabo Bester. Home Affairs Minister Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi informed parliament that a DNA test was conducted on Bester and the woman claiming to be his mother, with the results confirming a 99% match. The Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital also verified that Bester was born there in 1986.

According to Motsoaledi, Bester was registered through the “late registration of birth” process, suggesting that he may not have had a birth certificate or ID card previously. The minister explained that this process involves obtaining documents from hospitals, crèches, Sunday schools, and other relevant sources. These documents are then submitted to a special tribunal at the Department of Home Affairs, which decides whether to issue a birth certificate and register the birth late.

Confirmation of Thabo Bester’s South African Citizenship

The DNA testing of Bester’s mother provided conclusive evidence that he is a native South African citizen who was born at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto.

While Minister Motsoaledi did not explicitly disclose the visit to Kgosi Mampuru to provide Bester with a new South African ID, a source revealed to Sunday World that the purpose of the visit was indeed to clarify Bester’s citizenship and real identity. The source affirmed, “Yes, they came here to end the doubt over Bester’s citizenship and real identity. We now know he is 100% South African.”

In April, ENCA reported that Thabo Bester had up to 13 aliases, which he used to deceive young women and carry out scams while serving a life sentence at Mangaung Correctional Centre. Some of his aliases included Thomas Bester, Tom Bester, Tom Motsepe, Thabo Tom Bester, Tom Kelly, Thomas Kelly Bester, Thomas Berter, TK Nkwana, Robert, Thomas Kelly Young, Tommy William Kelly, Thomas Magagula, Thabo Magagula, and Rufus Mahopo.

The Sunday Times exposed the relationship between Bester and Magudumana, who enjoyed “getaways” together while Bester was in prison and in the months leading up to his escape. They spent several nights at a boutique hotel located 25km from the prison.

Under the alias Tom Motsepe, Bester operated a fraudulent events and production company called 21st Century Media. He posed as the chairperson and even attended meetings via video call while claiming to be in New York at the time.

A salon owner from Cape Town, Nomaxabiso Xhotyeni, revealed that Bester introduced himself as “Thomas K Bester,” the CEO of the TV channel MTV Base, when he visited her hair salon.

During his arrest in Tanzania, Bester was using an American passport under the name “Tommy William Kelly.” This revelation was made by Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi.

Bester’s childhood friends, whose identities were withheld, were shocked to discover that the person they knew as “Robert” was actually Thabo Bester.

By providing Thabo Bester with a South African ID card, the Department of Home Affairs aims to resolve the controversy surrounding his various identities and establish his true identity as a South African citizen.
