Thabo Bester Appears In Virtual Court In R19 000 Burberry Hoodie

Convicted criminal Thabo Bester and his co-accused, including his alleged partner Dr. Nandipha Magudumana, appeared virtually at the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court for their third court appearance. Bester appeared via video link from the Kgosi Mampuru prison in Pretoria on Tuesday, 16 May.

The accused face 16 criminal charges, including fraud, violating a body, corruption, arson, escaping from lawful custody, and defeating the ends of justice.

Bester Sported a Designer Look

During his court appearance, Bester sported a new hairstyle and a Burberry hoodie. However, it is unclear if the hoodie is authentic. He made headlines as many South Africans voiced their disapproval of Bester’s “special treatment” to wear designer clothes. On social media, some criticized that Bester was permitted to appear virtually and wear designer clothes, while others expressed their displeasure at his change of hairstyle.

Special Treatment or Not?

Bester’s legal representative, Tsoeunyane Jeremiah Pela, argued that his client be allowed to appear in court in person. Pela stated that this would aid their consultations during court proceedings. Meanwhile, some South Africans questioned why Bester was not wearing a prison uniform, while others pointed out that inmates are permitted to wear civilian clothing during court appearances, including those remanded in custody.

Bester’s Next Court Appearance

Thabo Bester will remain behind bars until his next court appearance, which is set for June 20. It is unclear whether he will appear virtually or in person at the court.
