Sifiso Meyiwa Alleges Investigator Gininda Orchestrated Murder Trial Cover-Up

As the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial enters its eighth week at the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria, significant allegations have emerged from Sifiso Meyiwa, the brother of the deceased footballer.

Sifiso Meyiwa Points Finger at Brigadier Gininda

In a recent interview with eNCA on August 27, Sifiso Meyiwa directly implicated Brigadier Bongani Gininda, the lead investigator in the case, for masterminding what he called a botched robbery “cover-up” narrative.

No Intruders, No Cover-Up

Sifiso Meyiwa steadfastly maintains that there were no intruders present on the night his brother was fatally shot at the residence of his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo in Vosloorus on October 26, 2014.

“Gininda is behind all of this, he’s the one who arrested these men [the five accused standing trial]. He is doing this to conceal his cover-up that he stole the statement. These men know nothing,” Sifiso asserted.

Allegations of Promised Payments and Intimidation

Sifiso Meyiwa further alleged that the five accused individuals – Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Fisokuhle Nkani Ntuli – were initially promised financial incentives to shoulder the blame.

“One was promised, I don’t know, R300 000. Another was promised about R3 million. Even their families will tell you. They were physically assaulted, but they refused to take that money. They also tried bribing their families and parents, but the parents also refused,” Sifiso disclosed.

Challenging the Connection to Kelly Khumalo

Regarding the testimony of data analyst and investigation officer Colonel Lambertus Steyn, who claimed that accused number five, Ntuli, had called Kelly Khumalo’s number twice before the footballer’s murder, Sifiso Meyiwa reiterated his suspicions of fabrication.

“He is being used by Gininda. All of this is fabricated. Kelly has never worked with these guys [the accused]. I’m saying it again, nobody was hired to kill Senzo. His murder was a mistake,” Sifiso emphasized.

Protecting Gininda and Shifting Blame

Sifiso Meyiwa contended that the police have attempted to shift the blame for his brother’s murder onto various individuals, all as an effort to shield Brigadier Gininda from potential arrest. He referenced a specific incident involving Tumelo Madlala’s statement that suggested Senzo’s shooting was accidental.

Previous Accusations Against Gininda

In 2021, The Kathorus Mail reported that Meyiwa’s family accused Brigadier Gininda of withholding vital information from a statement received in 2017 regarding the identity and motives of Senzo Meyiwa’s murderer. In May of the same year, Gininda faced allegations of obstructing justice, and he was later transferred to KwaZulu-Natal before facing questioning about these allegations.

However, Police Minister Bheki Cele denied claims that the Meyiwa case docket had been “stolen” or “missing,” reassuring journalists that the document remained securely in police custody.
