The recent news about the apprehension of AKA’s alleged killers in Eswatini prompted the South African Police Service (SAPS) to provide clarity on the matter.

Contrary to earlier reports, KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, confirmed that the two individuals arrested are not linked to the AKA case. Instead, they are being extradited to South Africa for charges related to an unrelated murder and attempted murder that occurred in Berea on March 6, 2023.

Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi affirmed that the investigation into the murders of AKA and Tibs remains a top priority due to its widespread public interest, both nationally and internationally.

He emphasized the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation, stating that any updates will be communicated first to the families involved and subsequently to the public through the media.

“Investigations into that particular matter are at a sensitive stage, and the police do not wish to communicate any information that may compromise the investigation process. The AKA and Tibs murder case is a complex one, and there was and still are tons of evidential information to be analyzed and processed. This is a prosecution-led investigation, and when the police have tied all the loose ends and covered all the loopholes, an announcement into the investigation and the progress thereof will be communicated in due time.”
