Radio Personality Thando Thabethe Responds to Allegations of Unpaid Cosmetic Surgery
Thando Thabethe Addresses Allegations with Legal Team
Renowned radio and TV personality, Thando Thabethe, has broken her silence in response to recent allegations suggesting that she and her friend, TV producer Tumi Maimela, did not honour payment for a cosmetic surgery procedure.
Amidst these allegations, Thando Thabethe clarified that the matter is currently being handled by her legal team. She assured the public that her legal representatives are actively investigating the dispute surrounding the purported unpaid bill for the cosmetic surgery.
The R5 Million Lawsuit Unveiled
Reports emerged that Vivari Aesthetics has lodged a staggering R5 million lawsuit against Thando Thabethe and Tumi Maimela. The lawsuit stems from surgeries conducted by the clinic, which also involved near-death experiences for the two public figures. Tumi Maimela’s company, Redwood Productions, is responsible for producing Thando Thabethe’s reality show titled “Unstoppable Thabooty,” which airs on BET Africa’s DStv channel 129.
According to the lawsuit filed by the cosmetic surgery clinic, the agreement entailed performing a 360 liposuction surgery valued at over R180 000 on Thando Thabethe and a comprehensive procedure comprising a 360 liposuction, mastopexy, and Brazilian Butt Lift, valued at over R340 000, on Tumi Maimela. However, Vivari Aesthetics claims that despite their contributions, the agreed-upon airtime on the reality show was not granted, and the bills remain unsettled. The clinic alleges they only received R100 000 from Thabethe and Maimela.
Challenges Faced During the Procedures
Tumi Maimela’s complaint about the surgeries, partly dismissed by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), highlighted several concerning aspects of the procedures. She noted that the surgeries conducted on November 25, 2022, exceeded the anticipated duration. Furthermore, she raised issues regarding the clinic’s lack of proper equipment, insufficient post-surgical care, and inadequate qualifications to operate on patients.
In one alarming incident, Thando Thabethe experienced profuse bleeding after undergoing liposuction, which led to significant distress. Maimela recounted the traumatic scene: “I was in the room when my friend was bleeding, and it looked like a little waterfall of blood gushing out of her. This was extremely traumatic for me to witness.” Maimela also pointed out that the clinic’s doctor had informed her that Vivari Aesthetics was not a hospital.
Additionally, Maimela disclosed that she suffered heart failure due to excessive bleeding from the surgeries, resulting in her admission to Life Fourways Hospital.
In conclusion, the allegations of unpaid aesthetic surgery bills have sparked a legal investigation involving Thando Thabethe and Tumi Maimela. The controversy sheds light on the challenges faced by both individuals during the procedures, raising questions about the qualifications and facilities of the cosmetic surgery clinic.
