Child Conceived During Relationships

The child at the center of the case was conceived while Sidambe’s current wife, Mary Jane, was also pregnant with his child. Sidambe’s ex-girlfriend, whose identity is protected for legal reasons, gave birth to their child a month before Mary Jane. The news of Sidambe’s maintenance issues came to light when the woman, accompanied by Sandton police, went to serve him with a subpoena at his business premises in Sandton.

History of Relationships

An unnamed court official revealed that the woman met Sidambe in 2006 while he was dating Mary Jane. At the time, she was unaware of his relationship with Mary Jane, whom he married in 2016 but subsequently left around three years ago. The woman became pregnant and gave birth to their son in February 2007.

The woman did not initially request maintenance payments from Sidambe, as her financially supportive mother was assisting her. However, after her mother’s passing in 2012, she obtained a court order requiring Sidambe to pay R4,000 per month in child support. According to the court official, Sidambe has not increased the amount since then, despite the woman’s repeated requests. Furthermore, Sidambe has refused to include their son in his medical aid plan, neglecting his responsibilities as a father.

Desperate Woman Seeks Responsibility

The unemployed woman, in an affidavit filed at Sandton police station, expresses her desperation for Sidambe to fulfill his responsibilities towards their child. The affidavit reveals that when she and the police went to serve the subpoena at Sidambe’s offices, they were unable to find him. Sidambe claimed he was not on duty and would only be available on Monday, despite being informed that the court date was scheduled for that day.
