Nomvelo Makhanya, known for her role as Lindiwe on e.TV’s Scandal!, has opened up about the circumstances that led her to being fired from the show. In a candid interview with the Access Genie podcast, the former actress, now a DJ, shared her experience of being written off after reporting her director and floor manager for being intoxicated on set.

“I was removed from the show a week and a half after I reported the misconduct,” Makhanya revealed. “I was called into the office and informed of the decision. They made it seem like I was the one causing problems, but I held my head high and accepted it with dignity.”

Challenging Work Environment

Makhanya described her final months on the show as extremely difficult. “I had to stop vlogging for my YouTube channel because they claimed I was wasting production time, which was not true. They would find minor issues to make it look like I was a problem,” she said.

She also ceased doing live Instagram videos promoting the show due to similar complaints. “They said I was wasting their time, and that was a new issue,” she added.

Impact of Reporting Misconduct

The actress noted that after reporting her bosses, rumors about her departure spread within the corridors. “People in power often want to assert their dominance, and when you challenge their misconduct, they try to make you suffer,” she stated.

Makhanya explained that she was blacklisted, meaning she faced difficulties finding work. “They wanted to show they were more powerful than me. It’s all about power,” she said.

Overcoming Adversity

Despite the challenges, Makhanya said she was not financially ruined due to her savings. However, the situation took a toll on her mental health. “I became very suicidal after losing my job. My extreme anxiety made me hear voices telling me I deserved it. I dedicated 10 years of my life to that show,” she shared.

Fortunately, she has since found success outside of acting. “Ironically, I now earn a lot of money from other ventures,” she mentioned.
