No Freedom Yet: Oscar Pistorius Is Denied Parole And Continues To Serve His Sentence

Paralympian Oscar Pistorius has been denied parole today. He was convicted of murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentine’s Day in 2013.

Pistorius shot and killed her through a locked bathroom door in his home in Pretoria. Pistorius had previously been convicted of culpable homicide, but that was overturned on appeal.

After serving eight years of a 13-year sentence, Pistorius appealed for early release. The parole board, however, denied his parole application, citing that he had not served a minimum detention period.

Pistorius will be able to apply for parole again after one year.

People on social media are angry about his parole application, and many don’t want him to be released from prison yet. They argue that he doesn’t deserve parole and should serve his full sentence without any possibility of parole.

Below are some of the comments on social media:

@Roger

13 years is low enough for murdering somebody. He must do the whole 13 years. Coward. He killed her out of anger and jealousy. It’s fine I don’t mind paying my taxes to keep him there.

@ApheleleJody;

If Oscar Pistorius gets released on parole after he cruelly murdered his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp will just show how our country doesn’t care about GBV

Why release a murderer ?? To kill again ???

@thee_adv;

Oscar Pistorius should never be given parole. What he did to Reeva Steenkamp was brutal, and he failed to tell the court the real story of that fateful day.

I don’t buy the story of thinking it was an intruder, and the SCA also states this in the appeal judgment.
