After 21 years, South Africa’s popular music talent show Idols SA has been ended.

Phil Mpela, an entertainment commentator, announced the news on his Twitter handle, confirming that the 19th season would be the final one. Social media users widely welcomed the cancellation, citing how the show had overstayed. Suggestions for new programs to replace Idols SA, such as South Africa Got Talent, Clash of the Choirs, and Coca-Cola Pop Stars, have already been put forward.

Many viewers had grown tired of the music show, with some even requesting that it be cancelled. On social media, there was much debate about why Idols SA should not have been renewed for its 19th season.

@DARKUndisputed;

Thank God, what a useless show. They must also cancel Big Brother

Siyabonga 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼it’s been long overdue yooo

@Rudy1mkn;

Our prayers have been answered

@ZuluBongaSA

Finally someone had to pull the plug. This show was becoming more about the the judges than the contestants, most viewers stopped watching based on the judges panel. I last followed this show the season which was won by Khaya or Musa.

@DindyMandie;

Finally 👏🏾👏🏾😩 the 19th season is not necessary they can leave it as is.

@Jabu_Mcdonald;

With this one I am not sad but happy and disappointed by how it became pointless because majority of the winners just disappear and never make it after the show.
