In April 2021, Anele “Nellie” Tembe, who was engaged to AKA at the time, died after jumping from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town.

Their relationship was known to be turbulent and marked by frequent arguments. The cause of her fatal decision has not been determined.

During Nellie Tembe’s funeral, her father Moses Tembe stated that his daughter was not suicidal, which fueled speculation about AKA’s involvement in her death.

Following AKA’s murder in Durban, Nellie’s hometown, some people on Twitter concluded that Moses Tembe might have played a role in the incident to seek revenge for his daughter’s death.

To calm the escalating tensions, Tembe issued a statement on February 11 offering his condolences to the Forbes family.

Following this, the Daily Sun interviewed Moses Tembe regarding allegations that he had ordered the hit on the popular musician, AKA.

He refuted these claims and stated that he had not hired any hitmen to carry out an attack on AKA. He also added that people who truly know him and his family would not spread such accusations.

“We’ve never judged Kiernan. We demonstrated our love for him to his very last day. We’re so saddened by this sad eventuality as it robs us of the opportunity we have been waiting for so patiently to vindicate our daughter in court or in an inquest.”
