‘Holy Heist’ Shepherd Bushiri’s Church Robbed At Gunpoint
The congregation of the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church in Mpumalanga, led by self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri, was left shaken after armed robbers pulled a heist on them at the venue on Saturday, 11 August. The robbery took place during a night vigil, according to iHarare.
Three robbers reportedly stormed the church, armed with handguns and their faces covered. “While still waiting for other members, three robbers armed with handguns and their faces covered stormed the church,” police spokesperson Brig Selvy Mohlala was quoted as saying.
Robbers Take Cash, Cell Phones, and Bank Cards
The unknown robbers walked away with an undisclosed sum of cash, 14 cell phones, and bank cards belonging to the victims at the church. The criminals also took the church members’ bank cards and demanded their pins before fleeing off with a vehicle belonging to one of the victims.
Fortunately, the stolen VW Polo Vivo was recovered about seven kilometres from the crime scene abandoned at Mzinti.
Mpumalanga Police Investigating Robbery
Mpumalanga police are investigating the robbery that took place around 21:30, according to The Citizen. Police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala revealed that 10 church members were present during the robbery as they waited for other church members to arrive.
Echoing the words of Mpumalanga SAPS boss Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, Mohlala said: “The general said Mpumalanga police will never allow criminals to walk freely and promised to get those behind the robbery behind bars soon.”
