Contrary to misleading reports on social media claiming Mbeki’s demise after a supposed hospitalization, the Foundation released an official statement asserting that Thabo Mbeki is currently in good health.

The Thabo Mbeki Foundation took to its official social media channels to address the baseless rumours circulating about the health of their Patron, President Thabo Mbeki.
Highlighting the foundation’s awareness of the false information, the statement categorically denies the reports and assures the public of President Mbeki’s well-being. It further urges individuals and organizations to refrain from spreading misinformation, emphasizing the potential harm it can cause.
Dispelling the Death Hoax
Earlier, fake news circulated claiming that Thabo Mbeki had been rushed to the hospital and subsequently passed away on January 3, 2024. This misinformation led to the erroneous update of Mbeki’s Wikipedia page, falsely declaring him deceased.
Notably, this is not the first instance of false death rumours surrounding Thabo Mbeki. In 2021, similar fake reports emerged, suggesting the former president had succumbed to COVID-19.

Thabo Mbeki served as the President of South Africa from 1999 to 2008. His resignation followed a request from his party, the ANC. He held the position as the second president of South Africa, succeeding Nelson Mandela.
