South Africans are brimming with pride as they revel in the remarkable talent displayed by dancer Musa Motha during his deeply emotive and awe-inspiring performance on the prestigious stage of Britain’s Got Talent (BGT).

In a groundbreaking moment, 27-year-old dancer Musa Motha etched his name in history as the first-ever contestant on Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) to receive the coveted group golden buzzer.

Following his phenomenal contemporary piece, the crowd rose to their feet in a thunderous standing ovation, unable to contain their applause, cheers, and the resounding chant of “golden buzzer” in admiration of Motha’s mesmerizing performance.

On Monday, Motha went through to the BGT finale which will aire on Sunday, 4 June.

1. MUSA MOTHA IS FROM SEBOKENG

Hailing originally from Sebokeng, a vibrant township in southern Gauteng, Musa Motha, the remarkable finalist of BGT, embarked on a new chapter in his life by relocating to the United Kingdom in February of the previous year.

2. HE IS A CANCER SURVIVOR

Musa Motha’s indomitable spirit shines even brighter in the face of adversity. In 2006, he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer. At the tender age of 10, he underwent the challenging decision to have his leg amputated, a testament to his unwavering determination and courage.

“It was not easy for my family but for me it was not really that deep because I was still young and I didn’t understand what cancer was,” he told TimesLIVE.

3. A LOVER OF FOOTBALL AND DANCING

Football held a special place in Musa Motha’s heart, captivating him with its passion and skill.

His talent on the field was so exceptional that at the age of 10, he earned a spot on the prestigious Ajax development team.

Unfortunately, it was during this period that he encountered a knee injury, which ultimately led to the discovery of his cancer diagnosis.

Musa Motha’s resilience and determination knew no bounds. Despite losing his left leg, his unwavering passion for football led him to embark on a remarkable journey of learning the sport once again.

However, his love for expression through movement extended beyond the realm of sports. Intrigued by the world of dance, he sought the assistance of his friends to explore this newfound passion.

With unwavering dedication, Musa honed his skills, becoming a versatile dancer proficient in various styles such as contemporary, pantsula, isbhujwa, and even ballet.

His remarkable talent and hard work were recognized and celebrated across South Africa, as he claimed numerous awards at esteemed dance competitions, including the Gauteng Matjeko Dance Festival, Dance Against All Odds, and the Red Bull Dance-Off.

4. MUSA MOTHA HAS APPEARED IN A DRAKE MUSIC VIDEO

Musa Motha’s artistic journey expanded even further as he established his own dance crew, demonstrating his leadership and collaborative skills.

One of his early breakthrough moments came when he was selected to appear in the music video for Canadian rapper Drake’s hit song “One Dance,” propelling his career to new heights.

5. HE TURNED DOWN BLACK COFFEE OFFER

In addition to his prowess in dance and football, Musa Motha’s multifaceted talents extend to the realm of music as a skilled DJ.

His exceptional skills behind the turntables caught the attention of the renowned South African-born Grammy award-winning producer, Black Coffee. Impressed by Musa’s DJing abilities, Black Coffee extended an invitation for him to join his record company.

While the offer was undoubtedly tempting, Musa’s mother prioritized his education.

She encouraged him to complete his matric (secondary school) and pursue tertiary studies before fully diving into the music industry.

Musa heeded his mother’s advice and successfully obtained a diploma in chemical engineering, showcasing his dedication to his academic pursuits alongside his artistic endeavors.
