Renowned actress and vocalist Nelisiwe Sibiya has recently become a part of the dynamic team at Gagasi FM, enriching their Sunday night lineup with her vibrant presence. This move follows a series of changes in the station’s roster, and the announcement was made amidst enthusiasm at the Black Bistro Lounge, situated in Durban’s Oceans Mall, on a Wednesday.

Embracing a New Journey

Reflecting on her journey, Sibiya expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity, emphasizing Gagasi FM’s exceptional reputation as a brand. Having dipped her toes into radio during her teenage years, she considers this return to the airwaves as a homecoming of sorts.

“Joining Gagasi FM is a tremendous honour for me. It’s an incredible platform to nurture my skills as a presenter, reminiscent of my experience at EKfm, a community radio station based in Tsakane,” she remarked enthusiastically.

Excitement in the Air

Sharing the limelight with DJ Sphe Live, Sibiya is set to co-host the electrifying ‘Shutdown Yomhlaba’ show every Sunday from 6 pm to 10 pm. Speaking about her collaboration with DJ Sphe Live, she exuded excitement, likening him to a mentor figure.

Return of Radio Royalty

In another thrilling development, the iconic duo known as the Kings of the Weekend, comprising DJ Naves and Sphe “Sphectacula” Ngwenya, are making a triumphant return to Gagasi FM. After a stint at Metro FM, they’re back to set the airwaves ablaze with their show, ‘Gagasi FM Fast Lane’, airing weekdays from 3 pm to 6 pm, alongside the seasoned presenter Thandi “Zisto” Mhlongo.

Shifting Tides

The recent lineup changes at Gagasi FM come in the wake of notable departures and controversies. Earlier this year, Naves bid farewell to Metro FM, followed by Ngwenya, signalling their return to their roots. This move marks a significant shift, especially considering their abrupt departure from Gagasi FM in 2019.

The departure of Penny Ntuli, who cited inadequate compensation as her reason for leaving, stirred discussions about fair pay in the industry. Additionally, Khaya Dladla’s exit after six years and Hope Mbhele’s absence from the new season lineup have raised questions about the station’s internal dynamics.
