Emtee’s lawyer, Dumisani Motsamai, expressed mixed emotions over the withdrawal of the charges. Motsamai said that although they are happy about the withdrawal, Emtee has been deprived of the opportunity to prove his innocence in court. He added that the withdrawal of the charges by the complainant is met with mixed emotions by the accused, as the image of being a “woman basher” would forever hang over him in the court of public opinion.

Moreover, Emtee’s team rejected the National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) proposed anger management classes. Motsamai wrote that the diversion programme, while not necessarily a form of punishment, is a form of corrective measure aimed at rehabilitating past offenders. However, Motsamai believes that Emtee does not fit the bill for such a program, and therefore, rejected the NPA’s proposal.
