Dr Nandipha Magudumana Accused Of Neglecting Her Kids For Thabo Bester

Nandipha Magudumana, the co-accused of Thabo Bester, has offered a glimpse into her family life, involving her estranged husband and two children, as part of her recent bail application. This application was presented on Tuesday, 20 August, at the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court.

The prominent doctor, known in celebrity circles, has sought parole on the grounds of her “parental responsibilities.” However, the state opposes her release on bail and has portrayed a contrasting image. According to the state’s perspective, Nandipha is not just a married woman but also a mother who has allegedly “abandoned” her children.

Insight into Nandipha Magudumana’s Bail Application

The bail application proceedings continued into Wednesday, with Nandipha Magudumana offering insights into her circumstances. She has expressed her intention to reside with a close friend in Sandton if granted bail. Notably, she has provided the court with a verifiable fixed address.

Nandipha, a mother of two, has emphasized that she poses no flight risk, having had her travel documents confiscated. In her statement, she unequivocally stated, “I have no intention to relocate to any other country.”

Highlighting her “parental responsibilities,” Nandipha shared that she is separated from her husband and is committed to caring for her 11-year-old and 6-year-old daughters. She affirmed, “I am currently married and separated from my husband. I have full parental responsibilities and rights of my two minor children in terms of section 18 of the Children’s Act.”

State’s Assertion of Abandonment

Conversely, the state’s position portrays Nandipha Magudumana in a different light. An investigating officer criticized her for allegedly abandoning her two daughters.

According to the investigating officer (IO), Nandipha has not been in contact with her children since dropping them off at school on 15 March. She did not return to them, and currently, her estranged husband, Mkhuseli Magudumana, has custody of the children. The IO further revealed that Nandipha only spoke to her husband once since her arrest.

The IO’s statement reads, “It has also been established from the telephone register that there was only one telephone call to the husband; instead, the many phone calls were to friends and her legal team.”

The complexity of Nandipha Magudumana’s family life and the contrasting perspectives presented in the bail application have added layers of intrigue to this high-profile case.
