DJ Maphorisa Repossesses Cars from Thuli Phongolo Amid Assault Allegations

According to an inside source at Zimoja, DJ Maphorisa, whose real name is Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, has reportedly repossessed the vehicles he had purchased for his girlfriend, Thuli Phongolo, after his arrest on charges of assaulting her in May of this year.

Bail Granted for Assault Incident

In May, the Randburg Magistrate’s Court granted DJ Maphorisa bail in the amount of R4,000 after he was accused of physically assaulting and strangling Thuli Phongolo, a former actress on Generations: The Legacy. The incident took place during an argument at Phongolo’s residence in Sandton, Johannesburg.

After his release from custody, DJ Maphorisa arranged for a friend to collect the Mercedes G-Wagon and Porsche that he had gifted to Thuli Phongolo. This action was taken to abide by the court’s directives and bail conditions.

“Maphorisa opted to send someone to reclaim the vehicles to ensure compliance with the court and the conditions of his release,” stated the source.

What Triggered DJ Maphorisa to assault Thuli Phongolo

According to a report by Sunday World, Thuli Phongolo alleged in a police statement that DJ Maphorisa became aggressive during an argument and physically assaulted her. She claimed that he punched her chest and slapped her across the face. The altercation reportedly started after a man made advances towards Phongolo during one of Maphorisa’s performances and promised to send her R40,000.

Although Phongolo initially filed a withdrawal statement the day after Maphorisa’s arrest, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) needed time to conduct an investigation before finalizing the case.

Case Postponed Once Again

The assault case against DJ Maphorisa was scheduled for a court hearing on Wednesday, July 5. However, the proceedings were once again postponed. The initial court appearance on June 14 was also adjourned due to the absence of state representatives.

The next hearing is now scheduled to take place at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on July 12.
