“Dingiswayo” Thembinkosi Mthembu From Shaka Ilembe Reveals How His Girlfriend Deals With His Tlof Tlof Scenes On TV
Actor Thembinkosi Mthembu, renowned for his portrayal of Dingiswayo in Shaka Ilembe, opens up about how his girlfriend copes with his intimate scenes on television.
Stepping into 2023 with Success
The talented 29-year-old actor, Thembinkosi Mthembu, is making waves in 2023. He captivated audiences on Showmax’s “Adulting” as Bonga, the alpha male and unofficial leader of his close-knit group of friends.
Embracing the Role of Dingiswayo
In May 2023, Mthembu’s familiar face graced Mzansi Magic’s “Shaka Ilembe” as Dingiswayo. According to Mzansi Magic, this character went into exile before making a triumphant return and ascending to the Mthethwa throne. Dingiswayo is celebrated as an inspirational leader, a formidable fighter, and a strategic genius who played a pivotal role in shaping Shaka’s character, portrayed by Lemogang Tsipa.
Transforming for the Role
Thembinkosi Mthembu recently shared with TimesLIVE the lengths he went to in order to embody the character of Dingiswayo in “Shaka Ilembe.”
He made a significant sacrifice by distancing himself from his girlfriend and family and temporarily removing himself from the realm of social media to eliminate distractions. Speaking about his dedication to the role, Mthembu stated, “Shaka was the first project I went full-on with. This character is close to my heart. I fell in love with this character. I enjoyed it. I’m grateful we’re shooting season 2 soon.”
He even recounted a physical altercation during filming, saying, “It was so real to the point where we fought, I hurt my back. When he punched me, I fell on my back. I wasn’t supposed to fall, but I was selling that punch because I felt like he was feeling it, so I jumped and fell on my back and had pain for about three weeks.”
Managing Intimacy Scenes
Thembinkosi takes his craft seriously and immerses himself fully in all his roles. He shared with TimesLIVE that he went on dates with his co-star Londeka Sishi before shooting “Adulting.”
This commitment to on-screen chemistry could have complicated his relationship with his girlfriend, but he explained, “For me and her to build chemistry, we had to go on dates because it would read on camera. My partner knew about the dates but didn’t watch my intimate scenes. She’s OK because we started dating when I was in my third year at DUT, so she knew me from university.”
