United States rapper Doja Cat, born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, recently disclosed that she has never met her father, the renowned South African actor Dumisani Dlamini.
Her South African Dad
Doja Cat, also known as Amala, is the child of Dumisani Dlamini, but it appears that the two lack any significant relationship.
Dumisani met the American lady Deborah Elizabeth Sawyer in the 1990s, and despite having a brief relationship, they later separated. Months afterwards, Deborah gave birth to Doja Cat.
Relationship between father and daughter
Doja Cat, in previous statements, mentioned that her knowledge of her father was limited to what her mother had told her. She revealed that he occasionally commented on her Instagram posts, expressing her interest in meeting him someday.
Dumisani denies having any issues with Doja Cat or her mom. He stated that communication occurred through WhatsApp, expressing happiness for their success.
Doja Cat’s Interview with Ebro Darden
Recently, Doja Cat sat down for an interview with Ebro Darden on his Apple Music 1 show, where she shared insights into her relationship with Dumisani Dlamini.
“No, I’ve never met my dad. I still haven’t [been to South Africa]. I rely on my career to just throw me out to places. I don’t find pockets of time in my life. I can fly but I don’t like flying, especially long flights like that.”
She also praised her father during the interview, highlighting his exceptional dancing skills:
“My dad is so good at dancing; he’s a goated (Greatest Of All Time) dancer. It’s unbelievable, there’s this one video that my mom showed me. There’s one of him performing on Broadway I believe, his whole upper body was still but his feet were just like all over the place. He has so much ability and talent when it comes to dancing.”
Dumisani has previously expressed his attempts to reconnect with his daughter, although her management company has reportedly blocked these efforts.
