In a tragic turn of events, a couple, crucial witnesses in an assault case, was fatally shot just outside Randburg Magistrates Court.
The couple were crucial witnesses to a murder case, and one of them was set to be cross-examined that day.
Details of the Incident
Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo confirmed the heartbreaking news, stating that the police have opened a murder case and are actively searching for the suspects.
According to the police report, the couple was ambushed by an armed assailant while walking towards the Randburg Magistrate’s Court. The suspect shot them dead, and the motive for the killing remains unconfirmed at this stage.
“It is reported that the victims were walking towards the Randburg Magistrate’s Court when they were approached by the suspect who shot at them. The victims were certified dead on the scene. It is reported that the suspects were driving a black Mercedes Benz. The motive for the killing cannot be confirmed at this stage,” said Masondo.
Suspects on the Run
The couple was on their way to the Magistrates Court when they were ambushed by their attacker. The two were then fatally shot killing the couple instantly before they could give their testimonies.
The suspects, driving a black Mercedes Benz, reportedly fled the scene after the fatal shooting, adding a layer of mystery to the incident.
Accused Officers Under Scrutiny
Interestingly, the four accused, all police officers facing trial in the assault case, are now under suspicion for the double homicide. The investigating officer urged the court to probe the accused for the couple’s murder.
Masondo recommended seizing the suspects’ cellphones and firearms and conducting gunpowder tests to gather crucial evidence. They have become the main suspects in the shooting.
