Controversial American Rapper Da Baby Set To Perform In South Africa

Jonathan Kirk, better known as DaBaby, is set to perform at the Empower Africa Concert in South Africa in September. Despite his upcoming performance, the controversial American rapper has a past filled with drama and controversy.

A Controversial Past

Even before he became famous, DaBaby had his fair share of drama. In 2018, he was involved in a deadly shooting and was charged with murder. However, the charges were reduced to a misdemeanor when a judge ruled that he acted in self-defense.

In January 2020, DaBaby was detained and questioned for his connection to a robbery investigation. It was reported that he and his crew attacked a music promoter for only paying him $20,000 out of the $30,000 that was owed for a Miami performance.

In March 2020, while performing at a concert, DaBaby hit a female fan who was on her way to the stage. He later issued a public apology on Instagram.

In 2021, DaBaby teased a collaboration with Tory Lanez, who was sentenced to 10 years in jail for shooting Megan Thee Stallion. Additionally, the controversial rapper came under fire for making homophobic comments while performing onstage at the Rolling Out Loud concert.

DaBaby has also proven to be a horrible boyfriend to his ex-girlfriend Danileigh after he kicked her out with their newborn baby.

Headed to Mzansi

Despite eagerly announcing that he is headed to South Africa, many South Africans have no interest in the artist. One Twitter user shared: “South Africans are DEEPLY unserious because ‘empower’ and Dababy do not belong in the same sentence”. Radio personality Sizwe Dhlomo also poked fun at the rapper performing in South Africa: “Da Baby? FNB Stadium? Lol!”
