South African artist Cici, also known as Busisiwe Thwala, has taken legal action against Ambitiouz Entertainment, a controversial record label. Cici’s move comes as Ambitiouz Entertainment’s boss, Kgosi Mahumapelo, claims she is still under contract with them despite reports of her departure.
Cici initially joined Ambitiouz Entertainment following abuse allegations against her former boyfriend, Arthur Mafokate, who had signed her under his 999 Music label. Reports in June suggested that she had left Ambitiouz Entertainment several months prior.
Why Cici left Ambitiouz Entertainment
According to insider sources, Cici’s departure was based on a verbal agreement with Mahumapelo to join her sister’s agency, The House of Thom. Cici’s new manager, Sannah, confirmed that her legal team is addressing the matter.
The dispute appears to revolve around financial matters, with claims that Mahumapelo is seeking a share of Cici’s newfound success, leading to the removal of her songs and disputes over song credits.
Furthermore, the article mentions a separate incident involving DJ Zinhle’s song, “Thula,” which featured Cici. The song was temporarily removed from streaming platforms, reportedly due to copyright claims by Ambitiouz Entertainment. DJ Zinhle and the record label eventually reached an agreement to credit Ambitiouz on the track.

As tensions rise between Cici and Ambitiouz Entertainment, legal proceedings are underway to resolve the contractual dispute. It remains to be seen how this legal battle will affect the careers of both Cici and the record label.
