On a recent Wednesday, the curtains closed on season nine of Uzalo, captivating audiences across South Africa. Notably, this marked the departure of the esteemed actor, Wiseman Mncube, from the popular weekday soap opera aired on SABC1 at 8.30 pm.

Six years ago, Mncube graced the screens as Sbonelo Mhlongo, a character with aspirations in the medical field. His journey intertwined with Masoja Msiza’s portrayal of Nkunzi Mhlongo, Sbonelo’s on-screen father, who led him into a world of crime.

The decision to bid farewell was not taken lightly. Reports emerged in 2023 regarding Mncube’s submission of a resignation letter, signalling the end of an era.

Reflecting on his time on the show, Mncube expressed gratitude on social media, acknowledging the immense love and support received from fans. He bid farewell to the character Sbonelo Babongile Mhlongo, affirming the profound impact the journey had on his life.

While Uzalo marked a significant chapter in Wiseman Mncube’s career, his talent transcends the boundaries of a single role. In the 2023 biopic, “Nkalakatha: The Life of Mandoza,” Mncube embodied the iconic figure of Mduduzi “Mandoza” Tshabalala, captivating audiences with his portrayal.

Additionally, Mncube took on the role of Zwide in “Shaka iLembe,” showcasing his versatility as an actor. Currently, he graces the screens in “My Brother’s Keeper,” a riveting prime-time telenovela on Mzansi Magic.

The narrative of “My Brother’s Keeper” delves into a family embroiled in a perilous succession battle, with Nqubeko Shabalala at the forefront. Nqubeko’s character, portrayed by Mncube, embodies ambition and determination, challenging familial norms in pursuit of power.
