Thousands of dead bodies stolen in Limpopo
Limpopo residents are fuming over the ‘disappearance’ of their loved ones’ bodies from the graves, barely a few hours after burial.According to SAPS,the culprits have ventured into the ‘industry’ of supplying the human parts for ritual purposes.
Police in Limpopo are searching for a man accused of exhuming body parts from graves in Sambandou, north of Thohoyandou. It follows a confession by his teenage girlfriend, pointed out a number of graves violated since 2016.
A spine-chilling sight, Forensic Pathology Services exhumed the grave of Alpheus Vhudzikadzika who died in 2017.
His body was found without a head, a piece of corrugated iron and a bread knife were recovered from inside the grave.
Two other graves have been identified but the families have not agreed to exhumation.
The community is in shock.
Community leader Gerson Mufamadi says: “As a community we have been shocked. Our hearts are shaken, this is so unacceptable we are calling on the law enforcement people to roll up their sleeves.”
It’s believed that a body was snatched from one of the other graves.
Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo says: “We will obviously opened a case of violation of the grave and that of the body and the process will then be taken forward. Fortunately the suspect in this case in known and we will possibly arrest him.”
Vhudzikadzika’s body has been taken for forensic tests.
Police have called for calm as the search for the 24 year-old suspect continues. The motive is still unclear.
